Hypnotherapy: My Secret Weapon

This is truly one of the most important posts that I believe I could ever share with you. It’s been a long time coming, sorry!

Hypnotherapy has significantly changed my life for the better. Since beginning Hypnotherapy over 2 years ago, I have used it to improve upon many different aspects of my life. I have used Hypnotherapy to overcome a phobia, destroy limiting fears and crippling anxiety, improve clarity, focus, relaxation, physical skills and strength, increase joy, love, happiness, belief and SO much more.

Video: How to Create a Vision Board

Happy New Year!

I hope you are as excited about this year as I am:)  What does the coming year have in store for you? Well, that, my friends, is up to you:)

It is time to look ahead and create a clear vision for your future!  It is easy to get so caught up in the day to day that we fail to even take the time to ask ourselves what our vision actually is.  When was the last time you asked yourself any of these important questions:

What do you want to get out of this life?  Next year?  What are your priorities?  What are your dreams?  How do you want to spend your days?  What do you want to do with that amazing body of yours?  Where do you want it to take you?  What fears do you want to get cozy with so that you can say goodbye to?  What limits and edges do you want to expand?  What is your vision?

When we fail to get clear on our vision, we have no direction, no signs and no light to illuminate our path.  Taking the time to create a clear vision, puts our goals and dreams at the top of our list and demonstrates that we are ready to make them a priority.  That is only step one, of course;)  Step two, is creating an action plan that moves you in the right direction.  Step three is taking small (or huge!) steps every single week and even every single day, that lead you there.

There are different ways to create visions such as brainstorming theme words, writing vision statements from the perspective of your future self (after realizing them) and creating a vision board.  These activities are more about the process, than the product, and taking the time to get clear with your future, will launch you miles closer to your dreams and goals.

I have created a short video explaining how I create my vision boards, to give you some inspiration to get started on your own. There is no 'right' way, other than to simply get started!  Here is what you will need:

  • Pile of your favourite magazines.
  • Poster board
  • Scissors/glue/tape etc.
  • Beverage of your choice:)
  • Fun with friends or solo, up to you!

Have fun!  Let me know how your own vision board turns out- send me a photo at info@elmhealth.com .  Have a vision but not sure how to create a plan to get there?  I would love to help!  Check out my Online Training Plans or shoot me a message and we can brainstorm:)
Cheers,
Sarah.

Client Stories: "My Life Is Immeasurably Better..."

My thanks to Sarah, for creating a holistic fitness education program that encompassed eating, sleeping and moving and for being the first person who told me that my injury wasn’t going to finish me. - Karen Cummins

Health, belief and 'stoke' are all extremely contagious.  I know that you will be inspired by Karen's story, so I asked her to share a bit of her journey with you all.  She has inspired me with her belief, enthusiasm, willingness to learn and dedication to her new lifestyle and longterm health.  Well done Karen.  I am beyond grateful to have crossed your path and to have the chance to support you on our journey.  I can't wait to see what you do next!

1. What obstacles did you face when beginning your new fitness program?

I had some fear around not being athletic or skilled with gym equipment. Would I be able to do what was expected? I have never really liked the gym environment so wasn’t looking forward to that. I didn’t know how I was going to make the time at first.

What's Your Plan?

BIG goals, deserve GOOD plans!

Goals, dreams, passion, energy, excitement...all key ingredients in creation of performance and success!  But...what is the best recipe?  What are the steps to take, the moves to make and the cues of when to make them?  A training plan is like a recipe for your goals.  Without one, you are left flying by the seat of your pants, with a loaf of bread that didn't rise and wondering where it all went wrong;)

  • Have you started training for a goal with enthusiasm, only to quickly feel the wheels come off and lose your focus and motivation?
  • Are you unsure if you are doing the right training type, amount, intensity and frequency to reach your goal?
  • Do you bounce around between ideas and plans, making things up as you go?
  • Do you get injured, burnt out or frustrated with lack of results?

Kiss Your Fears Goodbye

Ohhhhh Myyyyy Gaaaaaawd!  Along for the ride with Jump Master, Daryl of Pacific AirSports in Campbell River.

This weekend, I kissed one of my biggest fears goodbye.  Skydiving.  It was one of the scariest and most amazing kisses of my life;).   Watch my video at the end of this post!

"Nope. Never, ever, ever.  Not even going to consider it.  Don't even ask me.  I. Will. Never. Skydive."

Music to Move You

A friend just gave me a mixed CD for my birthweek:)  How fun is that?  Remember the days where you made your friends mixed tapes for roadtrips, birthdays and just because (and didn't worry about being thrown into jail for sharing music with your peeps lol?).

Year of Fears: Part 2, 3 and 4

I am not quite sure how it can be the middle of April already but that is what the calendar says!  Time to catch up on my 'Year of Fears' posts.  At the start of the year, I posted about a desire I had this year to start to get cozy with the icky, awkward and sometimes even scary things that I normally tend to avoid.  It all kicked off with a ridiculous ziplining adventure 200 feet above the jungles of Panama- you can watch my gopro video of this exciting adventure here.  What else have I been getting cozy with this year?  Here is an update...

My TEDx Presentation: Human Potential and the Power of the Mind

Back in the fall of 2011 I was invited to speak at the inaugural  Comox Valley TEDx event.

"TED what?" I asked?

And so, my love affair with all things Technology Education and Design began to blossom, alongside millions of other humans around the world.  For those of you who have yet to dive into the TED universe, you don't know what you are missing!  TED talks are very short presentations on every single topic that you could possibly dream up.  Experts, personalities and generally interesting people share their thoughts on anything they believe is meaningful, in under 18 minutes.  From motivation to space exploration and everything in between, there is something captivating for everyone over at TED.

Mind Games: 10 Tips for your Motivation Toolbox

It's sideways raining...again.  I'll go later...  I'll go tomorrow...  I don't want to go!

Been there?  Me too!  Yet people are often surprised to hear me even whisper about periods of low motivation let alone announce them to the world.  They expect me to shout rah rah rah from the rafters day in and day out.  And quite honestly, mostly I do;).  But I think it is important to share that I also feel the weight of inertia slowing down my mojo or even threatening to paralyze my body from time to time.  It has happened before.  It will happen again.  And it happens to everyone including me and you.

Mental Strength: Harnessing the Power of Intention

The end of one year and the transition into the next is the perfect time to reflect, reset and reboot.  You know I love the energy of a new year!  And you likely know that I am a strong believer in the power of intention.  We coaching geeks love goals.  Dream goals, long term goals, short term goals, weekly and daily goals.  We love them all.  Why?  Because we know how powerful these simple tools for motivation and action really are.  No trendy gimmicks.  No expensive contracts.  No state of the art or latest greatest craze.  And definitely no guru's charging your credit card on a monthly basis.  Just you and your vision.  Nothing fancy.

Intention is a powerful thing.  The thoughts that we cultivate day in and day out feed our minds just as the air we breath and the food we eat feeds our bodies.  We are not only what we eat.  We are, in fact, what we think.

Endure

E N D U R E
Some days you have to dig way down into your bag of tricks.

I see beauty in a grey, dripping sky.  I feel life in an ice fed river.  I let out giggles while slipping and falling on wet, slushy snow.

For me, there will always be a deep gratitude and comfort in the the discomfort.  The pain in my lungs and burn in my legs are sensations that I will be forever grateful for.  The chance to move my body over mountains, through rivers and alongside nature is truely a gift.  When the conditions spiral downward I dig my hands deep into my pockets and hold on to what I know is true.  I know not suffering, but life at its fullest.

Clearing

This is it.  The final hours of 2014.  How do you feel about it?  Just another day?  Or a symbolic moment in time?  Or perhaps both, depending on the time of day😉

We humans love rituals and a chance for celebration.  And New Years is no exception.  In our world the New Year marks an end and a beginning... An old life fading and a new one emerging.

Ride alone...ride with friends.

This week I remembered something I didn't even know I had forgotten.  I found something that I didn't really know was lost.  Kind of like finding twenty bucks in your jeans pocket.  Sweet.

I get up with the mailman and I most likely go to bed before your kids.  In between I'm what you'd call pretty busy.  I have learned to run and ride whenever it works best for me.  Last year, while training for the BC Bike Race my rides got longer and longer and my riding buddies got fewer and fewer.  Out of necessity, just as I slipped into solo trail running, I soon discovered the beautiful selfish solitude of riding alone.  Since those first few forced rides I have learned to love riding alone in the woods.

Let's GO!

Life is going to get in the way of your perfect 'dream plan'.  It's just part of the deal.  Sorry if I just burst your bubble.  Speed bumps and flat tires are just part of life.   It is how you choose to react and adapt to life's challenges that determines the quality of your life and defines who you are...and who you are going to be.

Climb a little higher.

It turned out to be a beautiful Friday afternoon:)  10 degrees in the sunshine on December 27th...my kind of winter weather (sorry skiiers!).  I managed to escape from hours of troubleshooting on the computer (crawled out of my pjs) and headed out to the lake with a running buddy.  We pointed our sneakers up to the sunny bluffs above.

You can do it!

HAPPY FRIDAY FRIENDS!

Here are some inspiring words from our awesome ELM friends who have reached their personal goals!  I hope that you find part of yourself somewhere in them...along with inspiration motivation and energy to help you reach for your own dreams and goals;)  Cheers to a healthy and happy 2014!  You can do it!

Sarah.

I just wanted to say thank you for the encouragement and the great training. In my wildest dreams I never thought that at 56 years I would run a 10 K in 57.33…running across that finish line was as rewarding as walking across the stage to accept my MA diploma. Next year…yes there will be a

next year…I plan to beat my time.

Thanks, D
