Forest Fairy Strikes Again!

Here is an update from the Cumberland Community Forest Society!

Cumberland Forest Fairy Strikes Again!

The Cumberland Forest community is throwing an epic fundraising party on Sunday October 25th and the whole Valley is invited to be part of making history!  The 2nd annual Perseverance Party for the Forest takes place Sunday October 25th (following the Perseverance Trail Run) from 1- 6 at the CRI Hall in Cumberland.

The Cumberland Forest effort has attracted special attention from a very generous Forest Fairy! This Fairy has agreed once again to match 100% of funds raised through the Perseverance Trail Run, Perseverance Party for the Forest, Perseverance Raffle and all other activities that are part of the October 25th celebration! In 2014 this resulted in over $147,000 in fundraising in a single day and organizers and supporters are ready to do it again!

This is incredible news for friends of the Cumberland Forest and a huge opportunity to join forces and raise significant funds towards the next purchase, scheduled for the spring of 2016.  Every penny counts in the final 6 months of the campaign to protect over 60 hectares of beautiful coastal forest currently on the chopping block.  This forest contains an extensive trail network, unique plants and animals, heritage landmarks, wetlands, creeks and forms part of both the Trent and Comox Lake watersheds.

With over $800,000 raised to date, and over $8000 a month in monthly donors, the Cumberland Forest community is well on its way to closing another purchase and helping to protect the Village in the Forest. Contributing to the Perseverance Party for the Forest is the perfect way to help close the deal!

Tickets are on sale now for the Perseverance Party and you don’t have to do the run to attend – all are welcome! Tickets are $25 per person and the party includes a Gourmet Chili Cook Off featuring The White Whale, The Waverley Hotel, Guerilla Food Co. and Atlas Cafe (with Guerrilla Food Co. defending their 2014 title), live entertainment, door prizes, an incredible silent auction, elixir bar, locally brewed craft beer, chocolate treats, visual arts, a special kids program (only 40 tickets available) called the Mystical Protector Mystery and much more! Cash donations made at the event will also be matched.
