Happy Tuesday folks!
When I was a kid my mom had a book around the house called 'Steal this book.' If you lived in the 70's I am sure you know the one I am talking about. The title of this book shouts out at you with the same matter of fact but slightly demanding voice that I am trying to convey with the subject of this blogpost.
Make this salad dressing...today.
I am serious here. And I am seriously addicted to this salad dressing from the Whitewater Cooks cookbook. We have been making our own salad dressings to suit our moods/salads for years now. The Magic Bullet really did change my life...thanks mom:) Gone are the bottles of mystery additives and plain old CRAP claiming to contain anything close to fit for human consumption from the door shelves in our fridge. But then, suddenly, from a client's casual suggestion we stumbled upon the best homemade dressing ever..thanks Sally;)
Since first trying this salad dressing in late winter I am pretty sure I have made a batch every single week. We can't stop eating it. It goes on every salad we make. Brad even asked if he could drink it. Instead he uses eating spinach by the bowl full as an excuse to eat it. 'Just having a snack.' he says. It's that good.
And so here is what I (strongly) suggest you do:
When you get home today you are going to go and look in your fridge. You are then going to remove and clean and recycle etc. ALL of the bottles/jars that claim to contain 'salad dressing'. Look friends, you know you are only kidding yourself if you think these bottles contain actual 'food'. Go ahead and read the label if you really don't believe me. If it doesn't rot in a week, chances are it aint 'food' and your body is designed to eat 'food' not products that never seem to expire.
Next you are going to compile the following ingredients and whip up a batch of your own homemade, wholefood salad dressing. It takes mere minutes to make a big batch. And once you start making your own dressings you will most likely never purchase another store bought 'product' to top off your beautiful healthy salads again. This recipe is just a guideline and I have tweaked the original recipe to my own tastes. I encourage you to do the same:) Experiment with your favourite flavours and personal preferences. The sky is the limit and the google is an endless source of inspiration for new wholefood recipe ideas. Go now and buzz the following in your Magic Bullet...food processor, hand blender, yaddayaddayadda... ENJOY!
And after, I suggest you go pick up the cookbook...or all three...a must have addition to your cookbook shelf:)
Glory Bowl Dressing
from the Whitewater Cooks cookbook
1/2 cup nutritional yeast flakes (don't ask, they're good for you lol. Just kidding- vitamin B12 superstars- whoohoo!)
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup tamari
1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
2 cloves garlic
1 thumb ginger (my addition)
2 tbs tahini (sesame seed) paste
1/2 cup olive oil (original recipe calls for 1.5 cups but we like it more intensely flavoured)
Buzz until smooth and enjoy!
Let me know what you think!!
